V.
V. Giri National Labour Institute, an autonomous body of
the Ministry of Labour and Employment, Government of India, set up in
1974, is a premier institute of research, training, and
education in the area of labour.
The Institute is mandated to:
-
Undertake,
aid and promote and coordinated research on its own
and in collaboration with other agencies, both
national and international;
-
Undertake
and assist in organising training and educational
programmes, seminars and workshops;
-
Analyse
specific problems encountered in the planning and
implementation of labour and allied programmes and to
suggest remedial measures;
-
Establish
and maintain library and information services; and
-
Collaborate
with other institutions and agencies in India and
abroad which have similar objectives.
Structure
The
Institute is governed by the General and Executive
Councils, which are tripartite bodies. The General Council
with Union Labour Minister as its President lays down the
broad policy parameters for the functioning of the
Institute. The Executive council monitors and guides the
activities of the Institute with the Secretary (Labour) as
the Chairman. Director of the Institute is the Principal
Executive and is aided by faculty members from a wide
range of disciplines and administrative staff.

Organising
training programmes on a variety of labour related themes
for different target groups such as Labour Administrators,
Industrial Relations Managers, Trade Union Leaders of
Organised and Unorganised Sectors, Employers, NGOs and
researchers constitute one of the core activities of the
Institute.
Publications
Dissemination
of various labour related information in general and the
Institute's research findings in particular is an
important objective of the Institute. This is achieved
through 4 regular journals, NLI Research Study Series and
other occasional publications.

Resource Centre in labour Information (NRDRCLI) is one of
the most reputed library cum documentation centre in the
area of labour studies in the country.
